Condensation, Damp & Mould for Non-Technical Staff

Course Overview

Damp and mould is high on the agenda of housing associations and Councils and there is little doubt that staff should be aware of the current requirements.

Some non-technical staff dealing with damp and condensation issues at the front line, be they visiting tenants at properties or dealing with reports over the phone, don’t always appreciate, or readily understand, the underlying causes to enable them to effectively diagnose or eliminate contributing factors. They are simply not aware of the circumstance of tenants and/or what the impact could be of not addressing the problem appropriately.

This session challenges understanding and ensures delegates go away with the confidence and understanding needed to protect the relevant parties’ interests. It is ideally suited to housing officers, customer contact centre staff, estate and neighbourhood staff and everyone from a non-technical background who requires an understanding of this subject area.

What’s Covered?

This part-day session is relevant to organisations operating in the social housing sector and provides an overview of aspects of damp, mould and condensation,  including a look at the following;

  • The causes, symptoms and cures of ‘damp’
  • How to effectively interrogate and/or use sound observational and other techniques in order to diagnose or ultimately communicate sound knowledge-based principles and appropriate advice to affected parties, namely tenants and residents.
  • How recent ‘improvements’ to stock have compounded the condensation problem and how advice given should acknowledge this.
  • An understanding of the effective strategies and the means for removal or reduction of ‘damp’ and condensation and mould.
  • How an effective understanding of this increasingly important subject at front line non-technical level can reduce wasted resources and reduce the need for pre-inspection, re-visits and/or an ultimate failure in addressing related problems.

Learning Outcomes

This training session is delivered either in the ‘classroom’ environment or ‘live’ by our knowledgeable and professional trainer and is interactive; encouraging discussion and delegate participation to ensure skills learnt will be able to be confidently applied in practice; there will be ample time for delegates to ask questions throughout the session.

Delegates will broaden their knowledge and understanding of condensation, damp and mould and the causes of each as well as appreciating how this increasingly important subject at front line non-technical level can reduce wasted resources and reduce the need for pre-inspection, re-visits and/or an ultimate failure in addressing related problems.

Delegates will also gain a better understanding of how to effectively interrogate and/or use sound observational and other techniques in order to diagnose or ultimately communicate sound knowledge-based principles and appropriate advice to affected parties, namely tenants and residents. How an effective understanding of this increasingly important subject at front line non-technical level can reduce wasted resources and reduce the need for pre-inspection, re-visits and/or an ultimate failure in addressing related problems.

Certification: An e-certificate of attendance will be provided for attendees along with a set of electronic ‘memory notes’ (pdf) .
