Course Overview
Permit-to-work systems are necessary for high risk activities and those that may compromise existing safety procedures.
This course will explain the purpose of permit-to-work systems and what type of high risk activities may require them. It covers what sections a permit should contain, who has the responsibility for preparing them, and the duties of everyone who will need to carry out work covered by a permit.
On successful completion of this course, delegates will be able to design and use a simple hot work permit, understand the legal requirements for safe systems of work and hot work permits and have an overview of fire safety requirements within a hot works environment.

Training will include:
- Legal requirements for safe systems of work and hot work permits
- Understanding, using and designing a simple hot work permit and method statements
- Preparing to carry out hot work
- Precautions during and after hot work
- Hot work management system
- Understanding fire safety within a hot work environment, including how a fire starts, control methods, emergency procedures, fire risk assessment
- Safe storage of flammable products and fuel gases.
Learning Outcomes
Successful completion of the course will provide learners with the skills to design and use a simple hot work permit, an understanding of the legal requirements for safe systems of work and hot work permits.
In addition, learners will have an overview of fire safety requirements within a hot works environment including control measures and emergency procedures.
