IFSM Accredited Fire Safety Awareness for Social Housing Providers in Scotland – 22nd October 2026 – Live online

Course Overview

This IFSM Accredited training course is aimed at all staff to give them an awareness of fire safety within the workplace.

The course will provide a wide range of information to raise awareness of fire safety, including the history of fire, how fires occur and some typical housing related examples before looking at causes of fire in the workplace and covering what everyone should do in an emergency as well as training people of the importance to follow set procedures.

The session also covers the basics of human behaviour, highlighting the possible reactions in fire safety situations and why it is important to undertake fire safety inspections, what sort of things you should look for and how to effectively record inspections and report concerns and issues.

This course will be held ‘Live Online’ on 22nd October 2026, from 10.00am – 1.00pm (times are estimates and will depend on the interaction of delegates throughout).

What’s Covered?

This half day session is designed to provide general fire safety awareness to meet the legal requirements as referred to in the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations 2006. It includes the following elements and equips attendees with an appropriate level of understanding of fire safely in their workplace:

Introduction

  • A look at the history of fires, how fires occur and some typical housing related examples.

Human behaviour, legislation & emergency actions

  • A brief look at the legislative requirements in relation to fire safety in the sector.
  • Understanding what to do in an emergency and training people of the importance to follow set procedures.
  • Highlighting the possible reactions and human behaviour in fire safety situations.

Means of escape & fire spread

  • Understanding what is deemed a means of escape and the importance of minimising fire spread and keeping routes clear

Passive & active fire measures

  • Requirements of fire alarm and detection systems, fire doors, glazing and emergency lighting.

Carrying out fire safety inspections

  • Why it is important to undertake fire safety inspections, what sort of things you should look for and how to effectively record inspections.
  • Reporting concerns and issues.

Learning Outcomes

Delegates will gain a good knowledge and awareness of fire safety within the workplace to enable them to carry out their roles safety.  They will be able to identify the dangers of fire and understand and know how to react and respond should a fire situation occur, what to do in the event of a fire alarm sounding and be able to safely evacuate the building.

At the end of the session, delegates will also understand what is deemed a means of escape and the importance of minimising fire spread and keeping routes clear; they will also gain a better understanding of passive and active fire measures in the building, including fire alarm and detection systems, fire doors, glazing and emergency lighting.

Certification: An e-certificate of attendance bearing the IFSM logo will be provided for attendees.
